History of Spring Lake Park Lumber

Spring Lake Park Lumber Company has been in business for over 65 years. Our business is selling and delivering quality lumber and building products to homeowners and construction companies in the metro area.

The company started out very small, receiving lumber and other products via boxcars. These boxcars were hand unloaded and directly distributed to construction sites in the area. As the community continued to grow in the 1950's so did Spring Lake Park Lumber Company. We eventually opened our doors to the public and added a showroom that had an "Idea Center", paint department, hardware items and architectural services. We promoted the company as a complete full-service lumberyard and retail store.

From the time Spring Lake Park Lumber Company first opened their doors back in 1951, there has been three owners: George Herda, Russell (Buzz) Francen, and Dann Francen. Some of our current employees have over 20 years of employment. Recently three employees have retired with over 40 years of employment.

1952: Spring Lake Park Lumber Company:
SLP Lumber Co. on Plaza Blvd. was first owned by Evert Dailey and George Herda. They then sold it to Buzz Francen. This business supplies everything in lumber and building supplies to individuals and contractors to be used for building the community.

Our goal is to continue to sell quality lumber. With that in mind, the majority of our construction lumber is purchased from the western United States and Canada mills through local wholesalers. These wholesalers receive their lumber from mills that have reputations of producing excellent lumber. The trees that the lumber comes from are larger resulting in boards that are more stable which makes less waste overall for a building project.

To date, Spring Lake Park Lumber Company sells a variety of lumber materials to area homeowners, remodelers and new homebuilders, as well as commercial builders. We have a showroom which displays samples of windows, doors, siding, shingles, deck materials, railing systems, millwork samples, door and window hardware, brochures and miscellaneous building products.
